La Carioca brings Brazilian vibes to Barcelona’s beach neighbourhood Barceloneta
The Barceloneta neighbourhood is bursting with new places. Most of the popular places are along the beach boulevard. However this area is also very interesting when you dive into the little streets and find the hidden treasures.
La Carioca is one of those hidden treasures. Located in the little inner streets of Barceloneta, this cute bar is specialised in the Brazilian kitchen. Their main ingredient for all of their dishes is tapioca flour. An ingredient that is famous is the Brazilian cuisine but not that well known here. However, it’s tasty and also happens to be gluten-free. And you could do anything with it. Pancakes, bread, wraps… you name, they do it.
One of my favourite Brazilian dishes, pão de qeuijo (cheese bread) is definitely recommendable here and of course they do an amazing acai bowl too! Classic brunch dishes like avocado toast or eggs benedict are on the menu too if you feel less adventurous.
Prefer to pass by at a later time? There menu extends to the later hours as well and of course La Carioca also serves the most famous cocktail from Brazil; caipirinha!
The bar is tiny and has no terrace, however the bright design of this place gives you summer vibes instantly (check out that colourful floor!). The comfortable sofa is cornered along the wall and windows, so you still get the fresh air from the outside and a good view on the bar where the fresh juices and cocktails are prepared. Add some Brazilian music to that and you can almost imagine yourself there!
